December 10, 2018

December 10, 2018

Sorry this is going to be short and sweet, but sometimes those are the best lol. We had interviews with president and sister wilding this week, those went well. He had each companionship teach him a principal and he was someone we were teaching. It went really good! He didn't have many corrections for us and it was great Haha.
Our recent concert Aaron got a job in Nebraska and went up and moved in like a week! We are so sad, but it will be good for him. He is so funny! Our last lesson we took a picture together and he wanted to do a funny one so he goes, "okay, someone take my glasses" and so I do and then he pulls my hat off my head and puts it on๐Ÿ˜‚ I was dying!

I gave a talk on Sunday in church on Humility and pride and it went pretty well! 4th talk on the mission! How many more will I give before heading home?? Who knows. Sunday was sooo amazing. We have an amazing choir and after church we practice with them and there is legit probably 50 of us, we don't all fit on the stage! But were practicing for the sacrament meeting on the 23rd and it is going to be amazing. Way excited for it!
Later that night, we met up with some awesome members and went caroling to members and non members and it was a blast. I love Christmas time. :) but all is well and I hope you all have a fantastic week ahead!

December 3, 2018

December 3, 2018

This week has been so busy and filled with lots of miracles! I hope you all had a great week and very happy first day of December! (Christmas is coming!) This time of year is honestly the best, everything is so happy and the time just seems to fly! Probably because there are always things going on that are exciting :)
The Russian Sisters call us the other day and ask if we can take them to the denstist because Sister Pryshchepchuk had to get two of her wisdom teeth out because  they decided to poke through the surface of her gums and sister Korelova can't drive. It was a blessed day being able to go to Bothell! I miss this place and it is literally 15 minutes from the area i'm in now haha. So we get to the dentists and the dentist is from somewhere in Europe or the Middle East or something and also speaks Russian so that was cool haha. We seriously thought that it was going to take a long time for them to take these two wisdom teeth out, but it was straight up like 15 minutes and she was done! They took them out whole as well, they didn't have to cut them in half or anything. I only had one and I was put under because I was not about to be awake for it, and I swear it took at least 30 minutes, but I could totally be off because I was sleeping lol. The rest of the day it decided to start down pouring, we decided to walk to someones house that was just a couple streets down no thinking it would be bad, by the time we get there, I was drenched! It was crazy.
We made sugar cookies and it was a huge success! We delivered them to some members, potential friends, and a former friend Chad. Let me just say, Cookies are the way to a persons heart. We were able to pick him back up as a friend this week and will meet with him tomorrow! He is way cool, he has just been so busy with his new job and has crazy work hours, but he came to President Nelson's Devotional at Safeco Field when he came in September. We also went to a Potential named Chris, we have had some solid contacts with her, but we when she opened the door she told us she was in the middle of eating dinner but once we said we were just here to drop of some Christmas cookies, she was so grateful and thought it was the sweetest thing. So we set up a time this week to go back!
So district council we set some goals as a district and one of those goals is to talk to at least one person before you can go back to your car, and there was a guy walking his dog and we haven't prayed yet, so I pray super fast and get out and start heading towards this guy and yell hey! he looks at me and  keeps walking and so I start running to catch up to him and start walking with him bahah. He really didn't want to talk, but it was worth it because the people we were trying to see weren't home and there was no one else who was out.
We got the Text Friday that we are officially not having member dinners and doing our new schedule for prim proselyting time..So we have to cancel all the dinners we have in December with members, but all is well.

WORLDWIDE DAY OF SERVICE! it was such a good day, we went with our district to Habitat for Humanity and this is how an elder described it to me, "it's as if Home Depot and the DI had a kid." and that pretty much sums this place up haha. They had us all sort through a lot of tile and we pretty much threw out a lot of tile that there just wasn't enough to use in a bathroom or a back splash, who knew how heavy this stuff was holy moly! But we got to take huge loads of it to the back to throw away and you chuck it into a huge dumpster and it is way fun! haha Just imagen lots of missionaries throwing tile and it shattering, nothing could be better. Our Zone leader found a huge white board for $6 and they buy it, and it ends up not fitting in their Rogue, so they go back in and find rope to tie it to the top of their car, but they live down in seattle which is a ways away from where we were, and they end up just taking it to the other elders apt. because it was not safe lol. All us sisters had lunch together at Qdoba and apparently Colby Wilding (President and sister wildings son) works there! The other sisters got there before us and already got there food, and when we got in line, and are making our burritos, a member comes up to us and gives us cash to pay for our meal, it was the sweetest thing! Colby ended up giving us his employee discount so what was going to be $18 for both of our meals only was $7, we tried to give the member the rest of the money he gave us, but he would not accept. So Colby was getting off his shift and some of the other sisters were like we should get Bunt Cakes since it was across the street, but it is in a different zone so we can't go to it, so we ask Colby if he could run over there an buy us some bunt cakes hahah, he is so sweet. We later had our Ward Christmas Party and it was super cute, They did it family style so they had all the youth bring out the food to each table so there was no line or anything, super smart.
Sunday was really great, Aaron our recent convert got a job over in Nebraska and is moving this Wednesday, but he bore his testimony in sacrament and at the end he goes "Merry Christmas to Ya'll" and then walks off haha it was awesome. I also had the chance to bare my testimony and talk about Light the World and share a scripture I love to share with people, especially this time of year, Mosiah 16:9,  "He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death."
I am grateful for His light in my life, I hope you all can do things this Christmas season to light others and also light your own lives through our Savior Jesus Christ. Have a wonderful week!

Sister Stokes

Thanksgiving 2018

#Light The World

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It was one for the books for sure, last one as a missionary, kinda makes me sad.. but the future is awaitin'. Well, This past Monday we had a p-day from 8-12 then began working again, but don't fret! We got all of Thanksgiving off from 8-7 and then just had to go in early. It was a solid Monday though, we had lots of lessons set up and stayed busy!
Tuesday was an awesome day, While visiting people, we were running behind our schedule of who to see so we were going to skip a few names, but I really felt like we needed to go to this less active family, so we tried to get there and then got lost and ended up going the longest way there lol, when we got there no one looked home sadly, so we started writing a note to them that we were just going to leave on their door with the ward Christmas party invite, but sister Jones messed up the first note so she was about to start over, then a truck comes and pulls into the driveway! It was seriously by divine design, let me just say, so we get out of our car and it was the dad of the home who was just dropping something off real quick and then leaving. But he was so nice! I just knew we needed to see him and if we went any other time or didn't go the long way, we would of missed him. After that, we try to go visit a Potential in the area named Candy and on our way, there is a lady putting up Christmas lights and we wave to her and she waves back. I was like, we have to go talk to her! And of course the further away we got, other thoughts in my head come in and say, no, you don't need to go out of your way to talk with her. And so we got to this house and knock the door, no one answers, and i'm still in my head like should we go back to this lady we waved to? and so I was like, we are going back, why wouldn't we! So we walk down the street to this lady and we ask her name and it happens to be Candy! What are the odds of that?? So crazy, turns out she is a descendant of Brigham young and her mom used to be a member, but fell away early in her life. She knows a lot about the church and was super nice. She isn't interested right now, but I was glad we got to talk with her and bring those things back into her memory.
Alright! Thanksgiving was so fun, we started the day off by going on a hike down to the beach with our zone, and guess who came! Charlotte! (someone I had the opportunity to teach in Bellingham!) She was down here with her family and the YSA sisters where she goes when shes down here invited her to come! It was super fun to see her and catch up. After the hike, we had our Thanksgiving dinner at 2 with some members. It was super fun and the food was amazing! Our mission president and Wife invited some of the missionaries who live close to their area for desert with them and it was way fun!
We had dinner at our friend Jennifer's house, she is the sweetest person ever.
Sunday went well, we were very busy, but we had dinner at the Wildings lol, they are the best. We talked about the light the world initiative this year and I am way excited for it! If you haven't heard, this year is a little different than what they did last year. Instead of having 25 ways in 25 days of things to do, they have a focus each week of December. So week one is Light the world, week two is Light your Community, week three is Light your Family, and week four is Light your Faith. if you go on Mormon.org it has a video for each week and a calendar that gives ideas of what you can do each week! I know that the church puts in a lot of time and effort for this Light the world campaign each year, and I know that it is something that helps us to turn outward and focus on what this Holiday season is truly about. I hope you all can invite your friends and family to join with you to serve others and be apart of lighting the world this Christmas. I love you all!
Love,
Sister Stokes

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
